Which Premier League Players provided the most bang for their buck last season?

With the transfer window in full swing and many clubs splashing the cash on big-name transfers with eye-watering salaries to match, the team at Semetrical have taken a look back at which players provided the best return on investment for their clubs. So, which players had the best ‘cost per contribution’ last season?

Leicester City and Manchester United are both rumoured to have their eye on Burnley winger Dwight McNeil and it’s easy to see why. Participating in all but 75 minutes of Burnley’s tenth position finish last season, he tops this table as the Premier League’s best value striker, costing just £3,223 per goal and assist. The Burnley favourite and Youth Academy Graduate scored 2 goals and provided 6 valuable assists last season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden and rumoured Tottenham target Danny Ings also proved to be valuable assets for their respective clubs, with positive ‘cost per contribution’ ratings. 

Despite recent lacklustre performances, Sean Longstaff was the best value midfielder in the Premier League last season, with the lowest cost per contribution (passes, tackles, assists). 

Highly-rated youngster and Chelsea target Declan Rice offered the second best value, with an average cost per contribution of just £83.51, with 1,733 passes, 116 tackles and 3 assists for the Hammers. 

Polish Centre Back Jan Bednarek was the best value defender in the Premier League last season, with an average cost per contribution (tackles and clearances) of £3,996. 

Man United youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka was a close second for lowest cost per contribution. The 22 year old made the most tackles and blocks of any player in the Premier League last season. 

James Tarkowski, who has attracted interest from West Ham, Leicester City and Chelsea in this transfer window, ranked 10th for best value defenders. 

Ex-England goalkeeper Ben Foster was the best value goalkeeper of last season, with a cost per save of £13,218 for now-relegated team Watford. Foster made 117 saves for the Hornets during the 19/20 season. 

Current England squad keeper Nick Pope also features in the top 10 best value keepers.
